Artwork 1000354 by Karen Tilley :: You need to be a member to contact artists →Join :: Portfolio The inspiration for ‘Repository of Memory’ came from the ever-shifting dynamics of the family unit. The links bonding each generation together are severed by events such as separation, illness and loss, creating isolation and causing memories of past events to become fragmented and distant.
This film gives a visual impression of fluctuating from past to present, revealing a thread from female to female. Blood ties bring this together; memories retained, passed down or recalled, a changing of feelings and experience rather than an accurate depiction from memory. The film explored three generations of mothers and daughters and how with age the older female shifts from a centre magnet (matriarch) bringing and holding the family together, to a dysfunctional existence, were there is less demand for her needs causing loneliness which increases with the loss of a life partner.
