Wire, salt crystals, cotton string, 1m x 2.5m.
The installation \'Light Vessel\' is responding to a metaphor of the church as a vessel carrying and nurturing people\'s spirits.

The choice of the
materials for the vessel also carries a symbolic significance. I have decided to use the salt crystals not only for the delicately beautiful visual effect but also its symbolic relation to the spirituality. Historically salt has long held an important place in religion and couture. Across different cultures and religions it has been used in purifying rituals(Judaism, Christianity, paganism(Greeks), to avoid and repel evil spirits(Buddhism, Catholicism), to purify ab area((Shinto religion), as a symbol of good luck(India) or as a symbol of friendship and hospitality(Arab countries, as well as in Europe). Due to its double existence =liquid to solid=solid to liquid, salt is also seen as the symbol of immortality and this is perhaps the reason behind the frequent appearance of it as a sacred substance. Consequently the method I am using to create the crystals is undertaken on the very principle of solid to liquid then by evaporation to solid(the crystals form and attach themselves to the string).
