Yew wood sculpture on copper base.Claire Heath Nature is really my thing. I aim to bring the essence and energy of nature into the hearts and minds of people. The natural world expressed in sculptural form helps people to take the time to see, time to feel and time to connect with its immense beauty and inherent power of being. My interest is in the psychological response to a communication with nature. My experience leads me to believe that it brings about a feeling of calm, centeredness, an earthed whole feeling, a sense of knowing and wisdom within the eyes of the beholder and a remembrance in the beauty of life. This may just be the trigger point in an awareness that we need to take care of ourselves, each other and the planet earth. The Eye in the Yew sculpture is 2.1m in height. Yew wood has an amazing energy and colour. The essence of Yew is that of regeneration/reincarnation/eternity. Its spirit is that of; the unity of all opposites, rights of passage, the independence of life as one and a tree that has eminent importance in botanical, religious and medical history throughout the world. Working with the Yew has taken my personal learning through a transformation into a deeper understanding of life and my place within life. Its presence is unquestionable as is its ability to reflect the true beauty and power of nature. This sculpture has been worked with chainsaw, arbortech, chisels and fine sanding techniques. It has taken me to despair and back again, to love and beyond.
