Portraiture is central to my work. My main aim is to explore the different elements of portraiture that make it such a powerful subject matter, concentrating primarily on portraits within the painting discipline.
Expression for me makes the most vital part of a good portrait. In order to be expressive I try to convey as far as possible my personal feelings and emotions in my paintings. Also, I keep a constant awareness of my vision which is shaped by my whole life and my surrounding environment.
Recently, I have taken the direction of narrative painting, portraiture still being at the root of the work. Through various characters I aim to address various psychological and philosophical issues that concern us as human beings. I draw my inspiration from mythical and religious themes and adapt them to the modern context.
