Earlier this year I grabbed a canvas and some acrylics and inspired by images of my children I started to paint. I don’t have any real training to be honest, A level art was many years ago for me- and although I retouch images for a living using Photoshop I have not really thought seriously about creating my own work until very recently.
I have sort of combined the use of photo manipulation and canvas painting together- and by this I will explain my technique. I take a digital Image and apply and a filter in Photoshop, adjusting the colour and contrast until I create the desired effect. I then print this out onto an A3 sheet of paper, this then becomes my template and colour guide for my paintings.
With my digital work it tends to be fantasy inspired by many different themes and techniques. My piece NatalieInTubeland was a combination of my daughter Natalie’s Alice in Wonderland A level Photography course work and my daily visits to Warren Street Tube station on my way to and from work. I dabbled a little bit with Photoshop 3D to create the walls and used my cat for the Cheshire cat and so on. I sent this Image into the Artsdepot open and was thrilled when It was selected as part of their gallery exhibition.
I intend to keep on exploring and developing both my digital art and perfect my painting skills.
