Laine Tomkinson is a Nottingham based artist who uses intaglio printmaking as her primary art form.
After studying Fine Art Printmaking at the University of Central Lancaster she has developed her practice in Manchester, Barcelona, and the East Midlands.
In mid 2011 she became a member of the Printmaking Council and until recently was the artist in residence at Leicester Print workshop.

I use printmaking to evoke observations of literary, religious and personal themes; my work is dedicated to joyous expression.

Laine's practice deserves wider acclaim.
Her painterly approach, unerring sense of colour, coupled
With a lack of fear of expanding print techniques.
All these elements produce prints that are both challenging and beautiful

About
Laine was raised in England in the West Midlands. She employs a wide range of intaglio and relief printmaking techniques to chart her life, landscapes and travels.
After graduating she began using print as her primary medium, Printmaking appealed because of the richness and expressive power of the process. Over time her work has moved away from a figurative expressionistic base, latterly the texture and colour of the images are as significant as the subject matter.

In 1998 Laine moved to Barcelona, Spain, where she continued to work on paper, incorporating elements of the mythic imagery found in the interiors of Romanic Churches with her own personal metaphors. After four years living in Spain she moved to Nottingham where she spent time bringing up her son.

In 2009 she became a member of Leicester Print Workshop, developing her skills in mono-printing, collagraph and carborumdum printing techniques.
From September 2011 to February 2012 Laine was the Artist in Residence at Leicester Print Workshop. She used the experience to extend her technical knowledge, push boundaries and to produce a substantial body of work.
