At first glance, my work appears to be neither "edgy" nor "off the wall", unlike so many other pieces of art which are relevant to today's issues. I believe this piece to be not only relevant but executed relevantly. I painted this piece to raise an awareness of the decline of bees. I am also beekeeper, doing my part to naturally sustain and treat a diseased and limited population of the tiny creatures which pollinate the bulk of our crops, food for us and our animals.

My studio practice revolves around my interest in going back to basics, exploring the lost techniques of the old masters. I began using beeswax in my oil paintings some years ago as a glaze, exploring other techniques with wax such as encaustic work and scraffito. I now have adapted all these to my own technique using wax from "My girls"
