Ladies for the Afterlife (Shabti) by Jane Fairhurst :: You need to be a member to contact artists →Join :: Portfolio In Ancient Egypt small figurines called Shabti were placed in tombs to act as servants in the afterlife of the ancient Egyptians. This led me to thinking about the role of contemporary women continuing to perform the majority of household chores. Making this domestic connection I placed the female figures, made from cloth and with embroidered hair, in an old vacuum cleaner box and called it Ladies for the Afterlife (Shabti).
