CLOUDLY I from the performance CLOUDLY, performed for camera at the Hawk Stone, Dean Oxfordshire on International Womens' Day 2018.
Photography Stu Allsopp

The performance CLOUDLY offers the image of the domestic cooks knife transformed by mundane clothes pegs into a glorious wing with which to pierce clouds of misunderstanding and prejudice.

The performance is based on ideas from an essay by Anna Wahl ‘The Cloud: Lecturing on Feminist research’ (NORA: Nordic Journal of women’s studies, vol 2-3 1999) pp.97-108. Anna Wahl describes the effect of teaching and talking about the word “feminism” as generating a cloud in the room – a cloud generated by misunderstandings, prejudices and preconceptions – and which must be worked through before it is possible to engage with any shared understanding of the subject of feminism or feminist research.

Cibachrome photograph in a limited edition of 10, 297 x 420mm, each signed by the artist and mounted on archival photo mount board.
