I've been involved in the arts all my life - first as a playwright and then, for the last 13 years, as a visual artist. I started as a painter but soon found myself gravitating towards printmaking, particularly relief printing, and particularly woodcuts. Recently I've been experimenting with monotype portraits which I find immensely stimulating. I make sketches, from life, in my notebook and then transfer them into monotypes in my studio.

Otherwise I've been drawing, with some success. I find that drawing and working on a woodcut run very well together - the freedom of drawing and the concentration demanded of doing a woodcut.

For me artists have a responsibility to comment on the state of the world, however indirectly.
